| International jazz greats to perform at Christchurch festiva lOne of Germany's best known jazz musicians is coming to Christchurch to perform at the New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival from April 11 to 15. Klaus Doldinger wrote the score for the movie Das Boot and has performed all over the world with his band, winning numerous awards. He will be performing in Christchurch for one night only, on April 12. "Klaus Doldinger is a very accomplished jazz musician and we're thrilled he's agreed to come and bring his seven-piece band to Christchurch for the festival, '' says festival organiser Jodi Wright. Also taking part in the festival is Australian jazz trumpet great, James Morrison, who will perform a tribute to the legendary Duke Ellington, accompanied by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Among the works they will be performing is Ellington's popular Harlem Suite. "James Morrison returns to the festival year after year and is a real favourite with the public. His concerts are always a sell-out and this year's tribute to Duke Ellington is going to be spectacular with the Christhcurch Symphony Orchestra, " Ms Wright says. Some of the best known names in New Zealand jazz circles will also be performing at the festival including Jennine Bayley, who will be performing a tribute to women in jazz along with Tessa Quayle. Harry Harrison has invited a few special guests along to perform on stage with him at his Nothing But Blues show, while Bob Heinz and Janice Gray will headline a Christchurch jazz icons show.
