| ‘Que Sera, Sera’: Doris Day tribute concert set in Woodland The Woodland Opera House will present Laura Didier and the Jim Martinez Jazz Trio in concert in a tribute to singer/actress Doris Day at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. The "nostalgic and fun jazz concert" is an homage to the music, style and grace of Doris Day, a news release said. Day's most popular hits are covered, including "It's Magic, " "Sentimental Journey" and "Secret Love." A spirited singalong of "Que Sera, Sera" will cap this evening of music and memories. Didier was raised with an appreciation for music by her father, a classically trained pianist, and her mother, with whom she shares a love of musical theater. From an early age, she found herself drawn to the timeless music of the Big Band era. "When it comes to music, I have a nostalgic heart, " she says. In 2007, Didier became the featured vocalist with the Sacramento-based Jim Martinez Trio. She performs nationally with the group, "delighting audiences with her pure, sweet voice, engaging personality, and quick wit, " a news release said. Her highlights include the Sacramento Jazz Festival and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, as well as Christmas concerts in Iowa and North Carolina. In 2008, Didier made her first international appearance at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in New Brunswick, Canada. In early 2009, Didier and Martinez co-developed a jazz concert titled "A Tribute to the Music of Doris Day, " with performances scheduled nationally. The show pays tribute to Day's music, style and grace by sharing with the audience her most beloved songs as well as interesting stories from her career. In the course of developing the show, the pair have become acquainted with Day and her management team. "It is such a thrill to know that Doris Day supports and endorses what we are doing in her honor, " Didier says. The Cypress Inn, a Carmel hotel co-owned by Day, has presented the show on multiple occasions. Pianist Martinez, a Sacramento resident, began his musical career at age 4 and received 18 years of classical training. He has amassed a list of musical accomplishments encompassing nearly all styles of music. Martinez is a Steinway artist and has performed or recorded with jazz notables Lionel Hampton, the Stan Kenton Alumni, Christian McBride, Russell Malone, Roy Hargrove, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Benny Golson and Ed Thigpen, the first drummer for the famous Oscar Peterson Trio.
