| Cool project, hot jazz, art film The Composer Matthew Shipp Barb Januszkiewicz Not everyone in the world understands art and everyone's interpretation of what's good art can be different. So I'm the odd guy. I like to celebrate this diversity in all of us. I am do theing an art collaboration with jazz artist Matthew Shipp called The Composer. An avant-garde film that could be turned into a museum installation piece or showcased from the street, coffee shops, to jazz festivals. It is simply described as witnessing creative vision, and inspirational moment with the piano. And not any piano but a Fazioli. There is no conversation. It is all sound, movement, experienced in real time, the composer coming to the piano and working out a musical dialogue." It will be all about communication through music and visual camera angles, an art of the melding of two creative mediums in a breakthrough expressive tandem. Now we need to lead folks with open minds to our project and get the word out this about this multi-sensory video film experience. We are trying to get the project off the ground on kickstarter. We offer here a type of engagement and artistic freedom that just can't be rivaled. We're both excited to bring our talents together and perhaps our conceptual art/music piece can reach across borders, and inspire others and perhaps changed a life. We officially launched our Kickstarter campaign for The Composer at the legendary Bohemian Caverns in Washington DC. We also had front page coverage on the All About Jazz blog, one of the industry's premier jazz blog sites Week Two Update #2: Who are we? Daily Campello Art News by F.Lennox Campello Posted on November 18 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2011 The Composer MPA/Corcoran longtime art teacher Barbara Januskiewicz, together with NY jazz pianist Matthew Shipp, is part of a collaborative art project called The Composer. This is more than an independent film, as it can be developed into outreach programs, art installations, and multimedia exhibits. Her work this year has been to fuse music, art and the idea of creative critical thinking together. Here with The Composer project, she can reach into cultural art centers, museums and alternative art venues around the world. We know Barbara as a multimedia artist/filmmaker who sees herself and art as a way to celebrate creativity. Her actions have advocated taking art outside of the boundaries of the (art) system and to open it up to multiple possibilities thus bringing creativity into all areas of life.
