| Charles Mingus Grandson Reclaims His Legacy Through Film A documentary about a grandson's journey through the lore and legends of jazz history to find the grandfather he never knew, Charles Mingus. This feature length documentary directed by Kevin Ellington Mingus, the grandson of Charles, will include interviews with legendary musicians, friends and family shaping a collective perspective. The documentary will be filmed in locations ranging from India to New York to the Mingus Mill located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the only remaining landmark of the Mingus family settlement. "There are many perspectives of my grandfather that have not had a place in defining his legacy... I am seeking them out to understand him beyond myth, fable or a singular vision of his work." —Kevin Ellington Mingus, Director To finance the partially completed documentary, production company Orangethenblue has launched a crowd-funding project on Kickstarter.com. The project requires $45, 000 to continue to the next stage of filming, planned for winter 2011 and spring 2012. Funds received will be applied to conducting additional interviews in the United States, Mexico and Europe, equipment rental, on-location camera operators, editing fees, and archival research and usage fees. The Crowd Funding campaign is live on Kickstarter and will run until December 18th 2011 6:00PM EST. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
