Lalah Hathaway is referred to as the First Daughter of Soul, and is a contemporary R&B and jazz singer. She is the daughter of soul singer Donny Hathaway and a classically trained vocalist. In 1990, Lalah Hathaway released a self-titled album. The album's first single was "Heaven Knows, " produced by Derek Bramble. The follow-up single was "Baby Don't Cry" produced by Angela Winbush. The Soul Lounge Tour with Lalah Hathaway will route to Winston-Salem, North Carolina on December 18, Memphis, Tennessee (December 20), Little Rock, Arkansas (December 21) & end on December 22nd in Louisville, Kentucky. The first Soul Lounge tour date actually kicked off in Nashville, Tennessee with 4 stellar shows November 18 & 19. Lalah was joined on the stage with 2 musical favorites: Mark Kibble of Take 6 and Kevin Whalem. Two shows sold out and the other two were very near the sell-out mark. In 2007, Hathaway signed to Stax Records and in 2008 released her fifth album Self Portrait. It was released on June 3, 2008 in the United States, debuted at #63 on the Billboard's Hot 200 and reached the top ten on the Top R&B albums chart, making this album, Hathaway's most successful album to date. She received a Best Female R&B Vocal Performance Grammy Award nomination for "That Was Then." On August 14, 2011, Lalah Hathaway took to her Twitter account to release a free download of "If You Want To, "[14] the debut single from her sixth studio album Where It All Begins releasing October 18, 2011. Soul Lounge USA first established a solid presence in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2008 by promoting and producing a hip, soul, live music event featuring spoken word artist, soul vocalists and bands every Sunday at BB Kings. The Event has attracted some of the Country's most sought after Soul artist like Grammy Winners PJ Morton and Tommy Sims. This Soul event was so unique and in such high demand that other cities and venues requested its "vibe." After establishing a SOUL LOUNGE franchise in Memphis in early 2009, the grassroots concept took off like wildfire. Now with a presence in 13 markets including Washington DC and Brooklyn, founder Bill Lee McCleskey says the future is even brighter. "We have discussions weekly with different cities or venues interested in a Soul Lounge franchise… We're excited about what the future holds for this company and for authentic Soul music." "This Tour will pick up with Lalah in the Spring 2012 with several more cities. If you haven't seen Lalah live, then you are missing a treat. She is one of the best talents I've seen perform. And I've seen quite a few." write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
