Richard Sussman Plays the Music of Hank Jones at Nyack Library

Our jazz series at the Nyack Library Carnegie Room will continue this coming Friday, November 18 with the Richard Sussman Trioperforming the original compositions of Legendary Jazz Master Hank Jones.

Richard Sussman is an internationally respected jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Richard was one of the last arrangers to work with legendary jazz pianist and Jazz Master Hank Jones before he passed away in May 2010. Richard worked closely with Hank on the editing of his original tunes, which will be presented at this concert. Richard will be joined by bassist Jay Anderson and Steve Johns on drums.

"I had the extraordinary privilege and good fortune to work closely with Hank Jones as an arranger during 2009-2010 – right up until the time he got sick. During this time, I had a chance to study Hank's music closely. Most of us tend to remember Hank as the consummate jazz pianist and interpreter of standards, BUT, as I discovered, he was also a great composer in his own right.

I had the opportunity to rehearse with Hank on numerous occasions, going over the details of his tunes – which are gems! I'm grateful to have the opportunity to perform some of Hank's incredible original compositions and to help keep his spirit alive through this music."
