The Tres Amigos at Jalopy Theatre in Brooklyn

Not many artists can appeal to jazz fans at the Blue Note, country royalty in Tennessee, and blue-haired seniors at the public library—all the while staying true to their muse. The Tres Amigos win hearts by being their fun-loving, musical selves. Continuing their carousal across the music scene, The Tres Amigos are set to defy boundaries once again with their debut performance at the Jalopy Theatre, New York's premiere country music venue, Thursday Nov. 17 at 10:30 pm. Listeners who turn in early or want a preview can hear them live on WKCR (89.9 FM) Sunday Nov. 13 from 1 to 2 pm.

Careening back and forth between three-part-harmony singing and bursts of instrumental improvisation, The Amigos are a high-wire vaudeville act with a sound and a style all their own. They deliver earnest, often comic originals and original takes on a range of classics—all tightly arranged to suit the group's unique mix of alto sax, accordion, acoustic guitar, and hollerin' voices. White Lightning, Woody Guthrie, slow blues, fast choros, Night and Day, Good Night Irene—all not only find their way into the Amigos' exuberant set lists but feel like they belong there.

There are really only two kinds of music, Duke Ellington said: good music and bad music. The Amigos play the good stuff, with humor, virtuosity, and verve.

All in their twenties, The Tres Amigos are Eddie Barbash on vocals, washboard and alto saxophone, Justin Poindexter on vocals and guitar, and Sam Reider on vocals and accordion.
They have performed at major clubs, festivals, and universities around the country, including the Blue Note and the Bitter End in NYC, Harry's Country Club in Kansas City, the Cowgirl BBQ in Santa Fe, and Ashkenaz Music and Dance Center in Berkeley, California. They have appeared live on KPIG in Freedom, CA, and on WDVX's Blue Plate Special in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Tres Amigos Sampler Platter CD and the group's latest release, The Carolina Sessions are available along with musician bios and upcoming performance dates at the group's website.

Jalopy Theatre and School of Music is at 315 Columbia Street in Brooklyn.
