| Cedar Walton at Nyack Library The Nyack Library in partnership with the Rockland County Jazz & Blues Society will present a series of Jazz Concerts as part of the Carnegie Room Concerts 2011 Fall Season at the Nyack Library. The new Jazz Series will be on Friday nights at 7:30. The venue is a beautiful, classy room with a magnificent 9' Yamaha concert grand piano. Nyack is a picturesque village on the west bank of the Hudson about 25 miles north of NYC - about a 35-45 minute drive from midtown Manhattan. Carnegie Room Jazz Concerts Fall 2011 Schedule: Friday, November 4, 7:30 pm Legendary Jazz Pianist Cedar Walton in a Rare Solo Performance. Cedar Walton is one of the most acclaimed and influential jazz pianists of his generation, and a designated NEA Jazz Master. He first rose to prominence as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1960s, and has performed and recorded with many seminal modern jazz figures including John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, and Wayne Shorter. He is also well know as the composer of several jazz standards. Friday, November 18, 7:30 pm Richard Sussman Performs the Music of Legendary Jazz Master Hank Jones. Richard Sussman is an internationally respected jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Richard was one of the last arrangers to work with legendary jazz pianist and Jazz Master Hank Jones before he passed away in May 2010. Richard worked closely with Hank on the editing of Hank's original tunes, which will be presented at this concert. He will be joined by bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Steve Johns. Friday, December 9, 7:30 pm Jazz Bass Superstar John Patitucci with Pianist Mike Holober in a Special Duo Performance. John Patitucci is truly one of the most highly respected and preeminent jazz bassists in the world today. His multi-faceted career has included performances and recordings with some of modern jazz's greatest superstars, including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Wynton Marsalis. Pianist/composer/arranger Mike Holober is artistic director of Westchester Jazz Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the HR Big Band in Frankfurt. A busy member of the NYC jazz scene, he is on over 50 recordings as a sideman and has 4 acclaimed releases as a leader. John and Mike offer their unique blend of classical and jazz elements in this return engagement to the Nyack Library. Friday, December 30, 7:30 pm Vocalist Shirley Crabbe Sings the Music of the Incomparable Ethel Waters. Shirley Crabbe is a superb jazz vocalist. She has performed at numerous festivals, jazz clubs, and concert series in New York City and it's surrounding area. Shirley will be featuring the music of legendary American jazz, blues, and gospel vocalist Ethel Waters with David Budway, piano and Jon Burr, bass.
