| Texas-Sized Raves For Johnny Nicholas' "Terrific" 'Future Blues' Texas bluesman Johnny Nicholas stirred up a press stampede across his home state with the release of his first album in six years, 'Future Blues.' The Austin American-Statesman trekked out to Johnny's roadhouse restaurant The Hill Top Cafe outside Fredericksburg, TX to talk blues, hanging out in Howlin' Wolf's hotel room, and starting a restaurant with only a grill and a Coleman camp stove. 'Future Blues' also garnered coverage from Texas Monthly, Austin Monthly, Texas Music Magazine, the San Antonio-Express News, and Austin NPR affiliate KUT. "Terrific...world-weary wisdom drips from Nicholas' craggy baritone voice, and he sure has a way with words." - Living Blues "[Future Blues] extend[s] the tradition in ways that ensure the form does, indeed, have a future, as well as a past." - The Philadelphia Inquirer "Nicholas is impressively effective trading licks with guest Jimmie Vaughan. What he brings to the table is unique, but also faithful to the spirit of what came before." - Vintage Guitar write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
