Tom Russell Has Fertile Fall: Big Tour, Art Book, Art Show, New Album

Tom Russell, the American composer, storyteller and rustic renaissance man will launch a 33-date coast-to-coast tour this fall, performing songs from his epic 3-part saga 'Mesabi', out Sept. 6 on Shout! Factory.

A prolific musician, painter and author, Russell's artistic pursuits are limitless. The striking album art for 'Mesabi' is just one of 60 paintings collected in a book entitled "Blue Horse/Red Desert" out on Bang Tail Press this fall. His works are currently on display at The Rainbow Man in Santa Fe, NM and Yard Dog Art Gallery in Austin, TX.

Russell's 26th album, 'Mesabi' is a thematically vast collection of twangy rock, country, soul, roots and Mexican folk featuring guest appearances from Calexico, Van Dyke Parks and Lucinda Williams. Lyrically, Russell interweaves tales inspired by the barren Mesabi iron range (Bob Dylan's birthplace), the border-town of Juarez, Mexico, and fallen Hollywood stars like James Dean, Liz Taylor, and blacklisted communist actor Sterling Hayden.
