Darryl Cohen - Speaker for New Orleans music business conference

The Cutting Edge Music Business Conference has announced that it has secured NATAS's Chairman Darryl B. Cohen as a speaker for one of its continuing legal education sessions during its annual music business conference. On May 26th of last year, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which produces the Primetime Emmy Awards announced the election of Darryl B. Cohen as Chairman of NATAS. Mr. Cohen, an Entertainment, Media and Criminal Defense attorney, is a partner of Cohen, Cooper, Estep & Mudder & Whiteman LLC, and previously a partner with Katz, Smith & Cohen in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 19th Annual Cutting Edge CE (formerly the Cutting Edge Music Business Conference and Roots Music Gathering); Cutting Edge Film and Interactive Media Workshop, and Roots Music Gathering will be held September 21 -24, 2011 at the Pan American Conference Center/ InterContinental Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cutting Edge C.E. brings together established and aspiring entertainment professionals; it is as much about bringing people in the entertainment business together as it is about the business of entertainment.

Cohen has served as president and a member of the national board of directors of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Georgia Branch and on the Atlanta board of directors of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

Cohen is a former Assistant State Attorney in Miami, Dade County, Florida, and Assistant District Attorney in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. His Entertainment practice includes representation of television anchors, actors, photographers, models and talent agencies. Further, he is involved with numerous syndicated television programs. As a criminal defense lawyer, he has represented an entire spectrum of clients for over thirty years. Many of his clients and cases are high profile entertainment-related cases covered by the national media.

A commentator, master of ceremonies, actor and model, Mr. Cohen has appeared in numerous television shows including In the Heat of the Night, commercials, and as a principal actor in a daytime soap opera (Daryl Chambers on The Catlins), episodic television programs, and industrial films. He has served as President and National Board Member of the Screen Actors Guild, Georgia branch, and for many years served on the Atlanta Board of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

Mr. Cohen has co-hosted several local television telethons and was a regular on-camera spokesperson for WPBA-TV's pledge drives and Master of Ceremonies for numerous local events. He appeared regularly on Atlanta's WXIA-TV/Channel 11, the NBC affiliate, as the lawyer for their live televised "Noonday" program, and CNN/HNN. Currently, he provides national on-air legal commentary for CNN/HNN, and WAGA-TV Channel 5 (FOX).

Attorney Cohen has been Chairman of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia twice. He has chaired numerous seminars and other educational programs and is Co-founder and Permanent Chairman of the Annual Southern Regional Entertainment and Sports Law Conference. He is a past Chairman of the Entertainment Arts and Sports Law Section (EASL) of the Florida Bar Association. He is also a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, the Cobb Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association and The Sports Lawyers Association.
Cutting Edge C.E. (formerly the Cutting Edge Music Business Conference) was started in 1993 as a conference dedicated to educating musicians and music professionals about the latest trends in the music industry. Since its inception, it has evolved into entertainment workshops covering legal issues, filmmaking, interactive applications and media business education.

The annual 4-day event draws together established and aspiring music industry professionals from around the nation and the world. Sessions in this national conference cover vital phases of the business end of the music industry.
