Kenny G in Concert Sept. 16 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino

Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will present a rare acoustic duo performance by Kenny G featuring Robert Damper on piano, Friday, September 16 at 9 p.m. in the Rollins Center.

In a recording career that spans almost three decades with 23 album releases, Kenny G has solidified his reputation as a premiere artist and saxophonist in contemporary jazz, with 75 million records sold worldwide. His most recent release, Heart and Soul (Concord, 2010), is a culmination of R&B, pop, contemporary jazz and Latin styles which he says is true to his roots and creative vision.

"If I were to go back and start all over again, recording my first CD, I think this would be it, " says Kenny G. "It's true to my roots, it has soul, and it has the kind of R&B that influenced me in the first place." The style is evident from the first notes of the title track, which Kenny considers his favorite piece on the entire record.

"No Place Like Home" is slightly more upbeat, featuring lead vocals by "Babyface" Edmonds, also the track's author. "His music is right up my alley. His lyrics, his melodies, the way he puts his grooves together all work really well for me, " said Kenny G. Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds will appear in his own live performance at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino on Nov. 25.

Other notable tracks highlighting Kenny G's expressive sax lines are "Fall Again" featuring guest vocalist Robin Thicke, "G-Walkin', " "One Breath" and "After Hours." It is creative freedom Kenny says has enabled him to make one of the best records of his career. "Usually, when artists are left to do what they do best, the results are better than what happens when they're told what to do. Heart and Soul is an example of that kind of clarity and integrity and it's a record I'm very proud of."
