California Guitar Trio to Make Pleasanton Stop on 20th Anniversary Tour

The California Guitar Trio — the group that played the wake-up music in space for the Endeavor crew — will make a stop in Pleasanton on its 20th Anniversary Tour on Sunday, June 5.

The show will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Firehouse Arts Center, 4444 Railroad Ave. in downtown Pleasanton.

The Calfornia Guitar Trio is comprised of Paul Richards of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bert Lams of Affligem, Belgium, and Hideyo Moriya of Chiba, Japan, according to a press release.

Unique among guitarists, the three musicians share an interest in classical re-working of jazz, blues and surf tunes as well as their own compositions.

The trio is known for its technical virtuosity and humor.

The three guitarists met in England while studying with Robert Fripp and joined Fripp's League of Crafty Guitarists for a European tour, becoming part of a guitar orchestra.

They founded the California Guitar Trio in 1991. During the past two decades, the trio has performed on television during two Olympic games, at the Grammy Awards, on various network shows and on CD, as well as the space performance.

On stage, the trio has shared the stage with many notable performers such as King Crimson, John McLaughlin, David Sylvian, Tito Puente, Leftover Salmon, Taj Mahal, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Adrian Legg, Adrian Belew, Enchant and Jon Anderson.

The California Guitar Trio has released twelve albums. Its most recent, Andromeda, release last year, is the group's first release to that consists entirely of original material.
