Sol & Funk Root perform in Philadelphia

Sol & Funk Root, The Peace Project, and Off Duty Superheroes perform in Philadelphia Friday May 27. This will be a night of funk, soul, rock, blues, and reggae with world class musicians. The concert occurs at Dawson Street Pub, a venue that focuses on high quality music of Philadelphia as well as the east coast US.

Sol is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured around the world with many roots, funk, and blues legends who is now based in the Washington DC area. Sol and his band Funk Root create a unique blend of energetic rock, raw blues, reggae, and funk, all delivered with deep soul.

Sol & Funk Root have performed at many premier festivals and venues across the east coast US, and the band includes musicians that have worked with Tommy Castro, Hobex, Corey Harris, Deanna Bogart, Jah Works, Mike Zito, Squirrel Nut Zippers and more.

Paying homage to the greats, Sol seeks to push musical boundaries and bring Roots Music to a new generation of listeners.

A special Philadelphia version of Funk Root will feature Sol, Jaron Olevsky (from Amos Lee Band), and Brent Hoskins. Sol & Funk Root are a Home Grown Music Network band.

Also the powerful Pennsylvania based bands The Peace Project and Off Duty Superheroes will perform! Peace Ike fronts the Peace Project with soul/rock and jazz that'll move your bones! Off Duty Superheroes perform raw energetic rock.

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, THE PEACE PROJECT arrived fresh and uncharted in 2009. The band, launched by lead singer/songwriter and keyboardist Peace Ike, combines graceful piano with rhythmic bass, smooth sax, percussive drum beats and electric guitar to create a rhythmically driven fusion of soul/R&B/pop and rock. Taking a contemporary approach to music genres that have been stifled and outdated in most recent years, THE PEACE PROJECT introduces us to soul/rock/R&B fusion of the 21st century.

In 2010, Ike received notable mentions in The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The Pittsburgh City Paper, and an album concert review in The Pittsburgh Scene.

Peace Ike recently relocated to Philadelphia and can be seen performing solo, in trio form, and with her full band THE PEACE PROJECT.

The Off Duty Superheroes cite Grateful Dead, Phish, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Hot Tuna, Peter Gabriel, John Scofield, and a lot of others as their influences. They perform rock, jam, and funk.

This will be an incredible night of talented music!
