| Have a swinging good time with Intrada Brass Have a swinging good time with Intrada Brass. THE BRASS: Pictured are members of the Intrada Brass of Oakville large brass and percussion ensemble, who will perform this weekend. The Intrada Brass of Oakville is coming out swinging in its upcoming concert on Sunday, May 15. The concert, titled A Swinging Affair, will feature music by the likes of Duke Ellington, Harry James and Miles Davis. "It's a given that a brass band can't actually swing, " said conductor Bram Gregson, in a press release, "but Intrada Brass comes closer than most. We have a lot of versatile players in the group who understand the difference between what's on the page and what it's supposed to sound like in the context of swing and jazz." The concert will feature arrangements from New York-based Mark Freeh and up-and-coming Toronto arranger Jason Logue. The program includes An Ellington Portrait by Freeh, which includes the songs Take the A Train, Satin Doll and Caravan. The band will also play Logue's tribute to Davis, Miles for Miles along with other pieces of music. The band will also get help from Canadian jazz trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, a former member of the McConnell's Boss Brass. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
