Blues legend John Mayall to play in Barcelona

Barcelona will welcome John Mayall for a performance at the Sala Apolo this summer. The pioneering guitarist and songwriter, known as the founder of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, is set to play the last of several Spanish dates in the Catalan capital on Wednesday June 22nd.

Now based in the US, the Macclesfield-born performer has been credited with helping to launch the careers of many great blues musicians from the UK.

In the Bluesbreakers, he played with the likes of Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor during a highly productive period in the late 1960s.

Each guitarist moved on to enjoy stellar careers after their time with the group, prompting Clapton to famously remark that Mayall had overseen "an incredibly great school for musicians".

Now 77, the father of six received an OBE in 2005 and released his latest studio recording Tough just two years ago.

Fans planning to attend Mayall's Barcelona show will find tickets priced at €30 (£26.60) plus booking fee. The music is due to begin at 21:00 local time.
