| Shell Zimet To Throw Free Show In New York On May 5th Shell Zimet is like a living, breathing iPod. Want to hear a Frank Sinatra tune? Zimet will croon it for you. Are you in the mood for '50s rock & roll? Zimet will "Splish Splash" all night long. How about some jazz? Zimet will take a "Moondance" with you. Zimet is a consummate entertainer; his simple goal is to make audiences walk away happy. He is also pleasing radio listeners as well. Zimet's latest album, "Now and Forever, " was recently No. 1 on the Roots Music Report's Internet Radio Airplay Chart for jazz for over 26 weeks. Who is this man with the vintage voice? Zimet was born in Brooklyn, New York and broke into the music scene at the age of 16. At the time, Zimet sang for his uncle's club band, an opportunity that he had to work hard to acquire. "I told him after a party, when are you going to hire me?" Zimet recalled. "I don't think he knew what I was referring to. Two years later I started singing lessons with a vocal coach, doing American standards. After my third lesson I told my uncle I wanted to sing. He finally let me, and I brought the house down." In two years Zimet had surpassed his adult competitors in number of weddings and Bar Mitzvahs performed. "That was it, I was hooked, " Zimet revealed. "I haven't stopped performing since that day." In the past 20 years, nothing has slowed Zimet down. "I need to sing three to four hours a day, four or five days a week to feel satisfied, " Zimet explained. Percolating with youthful exuberance and swaggering self-confidence, Zimet nevertheless did find himself out of his element in doing something that is normally easy for a singer: working in a studio. "I was nervous recording for the first time, " Zimet admitted. "I'm never nervous onstage. Recording is different; there is usually no audience so I tried to bring a small number of people to sing to. You sing a line at a time; it's a very different process and requires other skills."
