Special Screening of Ragnar Kjartansson’s ‘The Man’

A special screening of Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson's The Man will take place at the historic Baejarbíó cinema in Hafnarfjördur on Sunday, April 17. The film will be shown continuously from 2-10 pm and admission is free.

"Outdoors, under a big Texan sky, we see blues legend Pinetop Perkins (1913-2011) play the piano outside an abandoned farm, " a press release says in description of the film.

In The Man, Perkins, a consummate showman, runs through songs, jokes, Lucky Strike cigarettes, and ribald asides that appear to have become a part of him, and his address to the world.

Frail, and perhaps experiencing dementia, Perkins repeats songs, in effect looping himself, just as the video begins again and again. Respect and great affection are evident in Kjartansson's careful video setup, the press release concludes.
