Melbourne Welcomes Jazz Greats to Its International Jazz Festival

The Jazz International Music Festival will take place from 4th to 13th June, will include the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, which means that there will be even more time for jazz enthusiasts to enjoy the great line-up booked for this year.

The festival has been running for 14 years and for the third year running, the festival's artistic team of Michael Tortoni and Sophia Brous have produced yet another ambitious programme that will bring top international jazz celebrities to Australia for this premier music event.

They have brought together over 400 performers to appear at more than 120 events, which include 46 free performances – the largest number of free programmes to date.

There will be no less than six world premieres showcased, with twenty works performed for the first time in Australia.

The legendary saxophonist Sonny Rollins will be headlining the festival, and as his appearances in Melbourne are rare, tickets for this event will be going fast.

There will be several performers making their debut at the festival such as Sun Ra Arkestra, Faust – one of Germany's best 'Krautrock' groups – and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble from Chicago.

A good showing of home-produced talent will be on hand too with Tex Perkins, Eddie Perfect, The Raah Project, Jamie Oehlers, Katie Noon and many others representing Melbourne's lively jazz scene. As many people would join this event but there still will be plenty of good accommodation available in Melbourne hotels for jazz lovers.
