| Downtown jazz festival gets $75,000 from province One of the largest jazz festivals in the province, which takes place each year in Oakville, is getting funding from the province. The Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival is entering its 19th year with a $75, 000 donation from the province, through the Celebrate Ontario 2011 program. The funding announcement was made by Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn with a presentation to the Downtown Oakville BIA Jazz Committee. "Every summer the Downtown Oakville BIA Jazz Festival draws thousands of tourists and residents to Oakville's downtown core. This is fantastic news for everyone and it is a true investment into Oakville and will further develop the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival, " Flynn said in a press release. "In 2010 the BIA went forward and closed Lakeshore all day Saturday and increased the event programming for the whole weekend and in effect brought more people into the downtown core, which ultimately has a direct impact on the economy in a good way — this is great for the business. The venue, Oakville's downtown core, is a key success factor for the Jazz Festival and Oakville has an dynamic downtown core, and I look forward to the 2011 Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival." The annual summer event offers three days of a cultural experience and first-class jazz in the downtown core. In addition to the provincial funding, the BIA also signed Wellington West Capital Inc. as Gold Sponsor for the next three years of the festival. "Wellington West Capital is eager to be part of the festival and as a downtown Oakville business, we know how important this event is to the community and to the downtown business core, " said Jim Best, Wellington branch manager, in the release. According to the BIA, in its 19 years, the festival has hosted more than 40 free concerts on three main stages as well as two smaller ones over a three-day weekend.
