| Jonathan Nelson and Nicholas Pell Elected to Newport Festivals Foundation Board Following George Wein's goal of building a base of prominent Rhode Island citizens to support the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals* over the long-term, the Newport Festivals Foundation today announced the election of Jonathan M. Nelson and Nicholas Lorillard Pell to the Board of Directors of this recently-formed organization that produces the two summer festivals in Newport. Mr. Nelson is founder and chief executive officer of Providence Equity Partners LLC, a global private equity firm that manages approximately $23 billion and specializes in equity investments in media, communications and information companies. His current and previous corporate board service includes Hulu, Univision, Warner Music and numerous other companies affiliated with Providence Equity. Mr. Nelson is a Providence native and a graduate and trustee of Brown University. Mr. Nelson said, "The Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals are national treasures nurtured by George Wein for six decades. I am pleased to help this tremendous organization, particularly as it supports two of my favorite things, Rhode Island and music." Mr. Pell, who was born and reared in Newport, is a Director of Acquisitions at W. P. Carey & Co. LLC, a real estate investment firm that owns or manages approximately $11 billion of assets. Prior to joining W. P. Carey, he spent three years as a Director of Business Development at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Mr. Pell's grandfather, Senator Claiborne de Borda Pell, was instrumental in founding the National Endowment for the Arts. Other Newport Festivals Foundation Board members include Richard M. Cashin, Managing Director, One Equity Partners; Jerome A. Chazen, Chairman, Chazen Capital; Bruce S. Gordon, former President and CEO, NAACP and retired Verizon Executive; Elliot L. Hoffman, Founding Senior Partner, Beldock, Levine & Hoffman, LLP; Vikas Kapoor, President and CEO of iQor; William M. Lewis, Jr., Managing Director and Co-chairman of Investment Banking, Lazard Ltd; Deborah Ross, Acting Executive Director of Newport Festivals Foundation; Bruce Trauner, Partner, Beldock Levine & Hoffman, LLP; William M. Vareika, Owner, William Vareika Fine Arts in Newport and George Wein. The 2011 Newport Folk Festival is set for July 29 – 31 and the Newport Jazz Festival takes over the following weekend, August 5 – 7.
