Get Funky in Prague with Maceo Parker

Maceo Parker is set to perform in Prague next month, giving fans in the Czech capital another chance to see the legendary musician in the flesh.
The funk and jazz saxophonist, famed for his work with James Brown and George Clinton, will appear as part of the 2011 AghaRTA Prague Jazz Festival.

Parker's gig at the Lucerna Music Bar on Tuesday March 15th will mark the 18th time he has performed at the festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Now highly respected as an artist in his own right, Parker first rose to fame after joining Brown's band in the 1960s.

His energetic sax playing featured on many of the late Godfather of Soul's seminal recordings, with Brown's oft-repeated instruction "Maceo, I want you to blow!" becoming a popular catchphrase.

Parker played with various incarnations of Clinton's Parliament and Funkadelic during the 1970s, before returning to perform alongside Brown once more in 1984.

The North Carolina-born musician's unmistakeable style has made him a much sought-after collaborator, with the likes of De La Soul, James Taylor and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers enlisting his services over the years.

His performance at the Lucerna is due to begin at 21:00 local time and tickets are priced at 530 Czech koruna (GBP18.50).
