| LateRooms.com - Denys Baptiste Brings Live Jazz to Norfolk Award-winning jazz saxophonist Denys Baptiste is set to perform at the Norwich Arts Centre next month. The west London-born musician will appear at the venue in a classic jazz quartet format, with Andrew McCormack on piano, Gary Crosby on double bass and Rod Youngs playing drums. People staying in Norfolk hotels who choose to attend the gig are likely to hear music from Baptiste's acclaimed debut album Be Where You Are, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 1999. The jazzman has continued to perform and release music on independent label Dune Records since then, with his new studio album Identity By Subtraction set to further boost his standing among the genre's leading figures. Baptiste's Norwich gig is due to take place from 20:00 GMT on Thursday January 20th and standard tickets are priced at GBP13. According to the Arts Centre, members of the audience should expect to experience "the full might of this saxophone colossus" when the performance begins. "Although it's his most progressive set to date, the music still remains entirely accessible with melodic free-flowing, contemporary composition, " the venue commented. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
