Calling All Artists to the Open Stage

The Erie Art Museum is calling all local artists to participate in two unique Open Stage Nights, hosted in the new performance space, February 4 and March 18, 2011, 6-9pm.

Erie boasts several venues that host popular 'open mic' nights geared for more seasoned musicians. The Museum's Open Stage Nights will be unique in that they cater to artists of all media and particularly to those emerging artists in the community who may not have opportunities to regularly engage with other artists or perform or exhibit for an audience.

"Hosting an open stage is a great way to nurture young artists, " said Kelly Armor, Museum Education Director. "We want to create a welcoming atmosphere for anyone to share their original songs, choreography, and visual art. And we want to share our beautiful new performance space with the community."

These two open stage nights are open to any individual or group to perform a five-minute set. Visual artists will project digital images of their work on a screen above the stage. Brewerie regulars Katie Chriest and Sheldon Peterson of theHeliotropes will guest emcee and perform on February 4, 2011.

The open stage nights are free to participate in and attend. For more information, visit erieartmuseum.org or contact Kelly at 459-5477 or folkart@erieartmuseum.org.

This endeavor is supported by a generous grant from the Schuster Re-Grant Initiative of Gannon University.
