| Medicine Hat Jazz Festival On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament (Medicine Hat), today announced funding for the Medicine Hat Jazz Society. This funding will support the 2011 Medicine Hat Jazz Festival, which will take place from June 20 to 26. Programming will showcase a broad range of jazz and blues music by acclaimed and emerging artists from Canada and around the world. The 2011 Medicine Hat Jazz Festival will feature more than 30 unique performances at venues throughout the city and will include several free concerts and public outreach activities to provide opportunities for local audiences to experience many styles of jazz. "Our Government is proud to support the Medicine Hat Jazz Society, which provides local residents and visitors with access to diverse artistic performances, " said Minister Moore. "This outstanding community event showcases Canada's musical talents to appreciative audiences in southern Alberta." "Through this dynamic festival, residents are able to experience and enjoy a multitude of Canadian and international musicians and their works, as well as see the benefits of increased tourism to their community." The Medicine Hat Jazz Society's annual festival presents a wide range of Canadian and international musicians to the southern Alberta community and area. Now in its 14th year, the Medicine Hat Jazz Festival has grown from a grassroots community-based event to a widely recognized world-class festival featuring an eclectic mix of free and ticketed events, workshop jams, and concerts for elementary school children. The Government of Canada has provided funding of $35, 000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
