The Yellowjackets bring jazz to Stony Brook's Staller Center

In a press release today, Staller Center announced that The Yellowjackets will perform in the Recital Hall at Stony Brook University on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at 8:00 pm.

The Yellowjackets have been playing jazz fusion music for thirty years. Their eponymous first album was released in 1981 on Warner Brothers Records. Many of their subsequent releases have either won or been nominated for GRAMMY Awards. The group recently signed with Mack Avenue Records at the 2010 Detroit International Jazz Festival.

The Yellowjackets are presently made up of Russell Ferrante, keyboard; Long Island native Jimmy Haslip, bass; Will Kennedy, drums; and Bob Mintzer, sax. Russell Ferrante and Jimmy Haslip are the only two original members of the group. Will Kennedy was the group's drummer from 1986-1998 and returned to The Yellowjackets this year. Bob Mintzer is also a long time member of the group and leader of his own big band.

Following their concert at Staller Center, the group will appear for a full week at the Blue Note in New York City.
