| Gregg Allman announces Massachusetts show Gregg Allman has revealed plans for a solo tour that will bring the founding member of the Allman Brothers Band to Massachusetts next month. Allman will play the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford on Saturday, January 15. The show will come just three days before the release of Allman's first solo release in 14 years, Low Country Blues. The new album was produced by T Bone Burnett and is comprised of twelve songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long influenced his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam. Low Country Blues features Dr. John on piano, guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jay Bellerose. The album was initially slated for a mid-2010 release, but that plan changed when Allman, who had long battled chronic Hepatitis C, was notified that he was a candidate for a liver transplant. In June 2010, he entered the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he successfully underwent the surgery. Allman made his first public appearance sing the surgery and also debuted some new material off Low Country Blues when he performed at Boston's Citi Wang Theatre in October as part of T Bone Burnett's Speaking Clock Revue benefit concert. He was most recently in town for the Allman Brothers Band three-night stand at the Oprheum Theatre last month. "When you have a new record it always feels different, " Allman said in a press release. "Man, you gotta get out there and move the muscles, you gotta move it and shake it."
