| Michael Lington Signs Record Deal with Trippin 'N' Rhythm Trippin 'N' Rhythm Records is pleased to announce the signing of saxophonist Michael Lington. Label owner Les Cutmore recently had the chance to catch Michael in London at the Royal Albert Hall where Michael was performing with Michael Bolton on a 125 date world tour. Les Cutmore comments, "After meeting Michael in London, spending most of the day with him and speaking about some great ideas and his musical direction, then seeing him perform live at the Royal Albert Hall just confirmed to me how talented he is. I'm very pleased to have signed Michael to the label and we look forward to a great working relationship and a great friendship." Michael Lington, with his unique sense of style and sound, has been instrumental in defining the look and feel of the contemporary jazz genre over the last decade. With his knack of penning compelling, memorable hits, Lington is no stranger to the top of the radio and retail charts. His 2002 release was chosen as one of the best contemporary jazz records of the year by Jazziz Magazine, 2006 brought Best album of the year accolades from Jazz Trax and in 2009 Michael was nominated as International Instrumentalist Of The Year at the Canadian contemporary Jazz Awards. Getting his first big break when he replaced Boney James in Bobby Caldwell's band, he has since gone on to tour with Randy Crawford, Brian Culbertson, was a recent touring member of Gentlemen Of The Night With Marion Meadows and Paul Taylor and has also opened for the great Barry Manilow. Currently on a world tour with singer Michael Bolton, Lington is finding a fresh new audience and finds himself with the unique opportunity to be a jazz ambassador. A platform that is allowing him not only share his gift, but to let the pop world in on what is not such a little secret anymore, that contemporary jazz can and does find favor in the masses if it just has a chance to be heard. In between his extensive touring schedule, Michael will enter the studio to begin recording his 'Trippin debut, due out in 2011. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
