| The Greater Cleveland Flute Society Presents Holly Hofmann The Greater Cleveland Flute Society presents Cleveland-area native Holly Hofmann as part of our 2010-2011 recital/masterclass series. Holly will be giving a recital on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at The Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Dr., Cleveland, OH 44106. She will be joined by Mike Wofford, piano, Dave Morgan, bass, and Jim Rupp, drums. The recital will be followed by a general jazz clinic and a masterclass. This event is free for GCFS members, $15 for adults, $10 for students (with ID). This program is made possible in part by Azica Records. Holly Hofmann is a Pearl Flutes artist. Critics have labeled Holly the most authoritative, swinging flutist in jazz today. In addition to performing throughout the world, she composes, conducts clinics and workshops, and books a number of jazz concert series. Born near Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. "I'm really looking forward to the GCFS event, and being back in Ohio for the holiday, " said Hofmann. "Performing in Cleveland always reminds me of my childhood there, my flute teachers Walter Mayhall and Maurice Sharp, and my time at CIM. I'm also looking forward to hearing the students that were chosen to play with me!" Masterclass participants were chosen via audition. The two participants selected to perform for Ms. Hofmann are Erin Steele, student at The Ohio State University and James Romeo, graduate student at the Cleveland Institute of Music. "We are so thrilled to have Holly for this event, " said Bonnie Svetlik, president, GCFS. "Having heard Holly perform, our audience members are in for an amazing afternoon of music. Anyone attending the event that plays the flute should be sure to bring their instruments for the general clinic Holly will offer following the recital. It's a tremendous opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business." Established in 1997, the Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) provides opportunities for flutists of all backgrounds to support and learn from one another and guest artists. GCFS programs include recitals, masterclasses and the annual Cleveland Composers concert.
