| Marsala Lukianchuk's band Cairdeas plans CD release A Cairdeas CD release party is set for The Gordon Best Theatre, at 216 Hunter St. West, Peterborough, Canada on Saturday. The band consists of local performer Marsala Lukianchuk as well as Steafan Hannigan and Saskia Tomkins, states a press release. Lukianchuk, who has been active in the local arts since 1995 including several years performing at 4th Line Theatre, has also toured North America as the principal vocalist with the Irish dance show Sprit of Ireland in 2004, where she got her introduction to Irish music, it states. She has also performed with the Ron Marenger Big Band and the Kawartha Jazz Ensemble. Hannigan is from Belfast and has been living in Canada since 2006. A multi instrumentalist (more than 40 instruments), he has worked with many top artists including Lorenna McKennett, Jeff Martin, Eileen McGann, Toronto Tabla Ensemble, James Keelaghan, Art Turner, Il Divo, Julian Lloyd Webber, Bjork, Pete Lockett, Depeche Mode, Gary Barlow, Uriah Heep, The Afrocelts, John O'Connor and Michael Flatley. Tomkins is an all-Britain and U.S.A. fiddle champion. Born in the UK, she has traveled the world learning different violin genres, playing with people such as Uriah Heep, Crispin Mills (Kula Shaker), the English Shakespeare Company, Sonja Kristina (Curved Air), Sin E, Toronto Tabla Ensemble, Laurie Anderson and various U.K. dance troupes. Her recording career covers more than 30 albums and numerous radio broadcasts including work for the BBC, it states. The band formed when working with Lukianchuk at the 4th Line Theatre last year and hearing her sing after a show, Tomkins introduced her to Hannigan.
