| Arvel Bird Nominated for Three Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Celtic fiddler and Native American flutist Arvel Bird was nominated this week for three Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for two albums. Bird was nominated in the category Best Blues Album for Ride Indian Ride and in the categories of Best Fiddle Album and Best Instrumental Album for Red River Jig. Last year, Bird took home two awards: Best Instrumental Recording and Best Producer at the CAMAS. "I am honored to be nominated for these awards at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and am looking forward to returning to Hamilton for the Awards Ceremony and Festival again this year, " said Arvel Bird. "Thank you to the CAMA Selection Committee for great honor. My albums are a labor of love. Ride Indian Ride and Red River Jig were fun to record and are even more fun to perform at my shows." Released in January, Ride Indian Ride conjures up a classic rockin' guitar beat blended with Bird's signature Native American violin and flute melodies that resonate in every cut. Inspired by Bird's love of blues/rock and Indian motorcycles, the album features 15 songs, many reminiscent of pure, old-school rock and blues, but each marked with Bird's uniquely haunting violin rifts and often, the spoken word. Named after the traditional dance of the Canadian Me'tis, Red River Jig is a brilliant collection of traditional Me'tis fiddle tunes and his own original recordings that make audiences dance. The resounding, foot-stompin' beats and intricate melodies capture the flavor of the fiddle tradition of the Me'tis Nation. This year's awards ceremony will be held Friday, November 26 at the Hamilton Place Theater, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. For more information about the CAMAS, visit: www.canab.com. Arvel Bird will be performing at the Canadian Aboriginal Festival held in conjunction with the Awards Show on Saturday and Sunday, November 27 and 28 at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum.
