| Saipan Blues Festival in October The Saipan Blues Festival will be held Sat. and Sun. Oct. 2 and 3. The two-day event will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. at Godfather's, located in the Ginza District in Garapan Village, Saipan. The free event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Micronesia Blues Society, according to a press release. Performing live at Godfather's will be Saipan's premiere blues ensemble, the Northern Allstars, featuring the powerhouse rhythm section of Mike Thorpe on drums, and Pinoy Rock pioneer, Virgil de Manila, on bass. Special guest from Guam will be Deep Pacific Blues. Extra added attraction will be Smokin' Stratocasters — the twin guitars of Dale Leavitt and John Kokomo Hoffman. Blues artists from across Asia will be traveling to Saipan to perform, including Okinawa's Peter Kellogg, a high-note harmonica champion. The Micronesia Blues Society was formed on the beach in Guam in the summer of 1990 as a weekly jam session, according to a release. Their regular weekly meeting is every Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mermaid Tavern and Grille in downtown Hagatna, Guam. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
