| Steve Miller Band in Dusseldorf Veteran blues rocker Steve Miller will be bringing his band to Germany in October. Fans of the American performer are sure to make Dusseldorf hotel bookings ahead of his arrival, as the concert will offer a chance to hear songs from the group's recent covers album Bingo!. The Steve Miller Band will play the city's Philipshalle venue on Friday October 15th, arriving in Dusseldorf after a series of gigs in the UK, Belgium, Italy and France. Perhaps best known for their 1973 album The Joker, which featured the hit single of the same name, The Steve Miller Band have been releasing music since 1968. Bingo! emerged in July this year and was the band's first studio effort since 1993's Wide River. The album features versions of a host of classic blues tunes, including BB King's Rock Me Baby, Hey Yeah by Jimmie Vaughan and Sweet Soul Vibe by Nile Rogers. Speaking to Billboard.com about the recording of Bingo! earlier this year, Miller described it as "a party record". He explained: "It's about getting up and getting ready to dance. It's like the fraternity party gigs I used to play in college. "I went through and picked all my favourite tunes that I really, really loved." German fans are sure to get into the party mood when Miller and his band arrive in Dusseldorf. For many people, The Joker remains the tune that is synonymous with the Steve Miller Band. The song, which reached number on both sides of the Atlantic in 1973, has been sampled and covered by a range of artists over the years. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
