Internationally acclaimed jazz musicians Ben and Leo Sidran will perform at An Evening of Jazz, a benefit to support Wingra School's Joyce Perkins Scholarship Fund.

The event will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, at Epic Systems' Observation Deck, 1979 Milky Way, Verona. Hors d'oeuveres, beverages and gourmet desserts will be served.

Wingra School is a small, independent day school providing a progressive education for children ages 5-14 in the Madison area since 1972. Many families are attracted to the education experience that Wingra School provides but cannot afford an independent school tuition. Named after a beloved former Wingra School Director, the Joyce Perkins Scholarship Fund was created and awarded a total of $4, 000 of financial aid in its inaugural year of 1987-1988. The amount has grown each year, and currently 25% of Wingra students receive tuition assistance. Proceeds from An Evening of Jazz will support this fund, so that Wingra School can continue o provide this assistance to those who wouldn't be able to attend the school otherwise.

An Evening of Jazz will feature Ben and Leo Sidran. The Sidran family has been involved with Wingra School since the 1980's when Leo attended as a student there.

"We hope to make it a night that will live on in Wingra lore, " says Ben Sidran. "In a way it's a homecoming for us because we participated in several highly excellent performances on behalf of Wingra, both in the old gym and at the Civic Center many years ago. Leo and I are very happy to have the opportunity to perform for Wingra again. "

Ben Sidran is most recognized as the host of National Public Radio's landmark jazz series Jazz Alive and VH-1 television's New Visions series. A pianist, producer, singer and composer, he has recorded twenty five solo albums, including the Grammy nominated Concert for Garcia Lorca, and has produced recordings for such noted artists as Van Morrison, Diana Ross, Mose Allison and Jon Hendricks. Leo Sidran is a musician, composer, performer, and producer whose credits include producing the Oscar-winning soundtrack for the movie The Motorcycle Diaries.
