| Modestan King of Blues semifinalist Modestan Dion Allen Gomez will vie with 25 other semifinalists in the fourth annual King of the Blues nationwide contest sponsored by Guitar Center. According an e-mailed press release, semifinalists will gather Thursday at one of five regional final competitions across the country. Gomez will travel to Guitar Center Hollywood to perform in front of judges for a slot in the finals, where one guitarist will win $25, 000, an endorsement deal, an amplifier and other prizes. King of the Blues store competitions have been held since mid-May. One person from each store was chosen to compete in 25 district competitions, where winners were selected for the five semifinals. The events culminate in the finals Sept. 2 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
