Vocal Trio Angel Band's 'Bless My Sole'

Elmore magazine has praised Angel Band's "distinct voices, gorgeous harmonies and extraordinary players." The female vocal trio's third album, 'Bless My Sole, ' will be released by Appleseed Recordings July 27th, and those hearing it will understand why Linda Ronstadt has said, "I love Angel Band's wonderfully strong voices and beautiful songs!" Angel Band delivers a raw bluesy Americana sound like no other with breathtaking, soul-powered impact.

Angel Band founder Nancy Josephson, who shares "stunning harmonies" (NPR) with Aly Paige and Kathleen Weber, has sung backup for Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and Phoebe Snow; toured with Peter Rowan, Arlo Guthrie, and David Bromberg; and been in an all women gospel choir and one of the first all-girl bluegrass bands. She is also a successful "outsider" artist, best known for her extravagantly embellished prize-winning art cars. Her work is in the collections of museums worldwide, including the Smithsonian.

'Bless My Sole' was produced by Angel Band's multi-instrumentalist and co-composer Marc Moss, Josephson, and co-producer Lloyd Maines, a Grammy winner for his work with the Dixie Chicks, who also produced Angel Band's previous Appleseed album, 'With Roots Wings.' 'Bless My Sole' features Grammy-nominated multi-instrument virtuoso David Bromberg on nine of its 13 tracks.

In February of this year, Angel Band was special guest of two-time Grammy winner Levon Helm at his "Midnight Ramble, " kicked off "Bromberg's Big Noise in the Neighborhood Festival last month and has been voted one of the top 10 bands at Bonnaroo.

The anthemic lead-off track on 'Bless My Sole, ' "Hope Is On The Way, " originally written during Obama's run for the presidency, has especially poignant meaning for Josephson. She has longstanding close ties to Haitian artists such as Georges Valris, who fabricated the sequined vodou flag seen on the CD's cover. Josephson and Angel Band have raised nearly $100, 000 to date for Haitian earthquake relief efforts.
