CareFusion Jazz Festival Partners with Symphony Space to Present 5 Concerts

CareFusion Jazz Festival New York and Peter Norton Symphony Space team up for five outstanding concerts featuring some of the best in jazz. Located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street, Symphony Space presents each concert at the accessible price of just $15 per ticket.

Sponsored by CareFusion, a leading global medical device company, and produced by George Wein's New Festival Productions, LLC, the festival takes over New York June 17 – 26 with 46 concerts at 21 venues across four boroughs.

Head uptown to the Peter Norton Symphony Space on Friday, June 18, at 8:00 pm for an evening of downtown innovations when the CareFusion Jazz Festival New York presents The Jazz Gallery All-Stars with Roy Hargrove (trumpet), Claudia Acuña (vocals), Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet), Gerald Clayton (piano), Lage Lund (guitar), Pedro Martinez (percussion), Kendrick Scott (drums), Ben Williams (bass) and Miguel Zenón (saxophone). Hargrove, co-founder of The Jazz Gallery, swings with other award-winning veterans of the adventurous non-profit venue.

On Tuesday, June 22, at 8:00 pm trumpeter Jon Faddis takes over the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre with four guitar greats: Howard Alden, Gene Bertoncini, Romero Lubambo and Peter Leitch. With four distinctive sounds – Alden's sophisticated phrasing, Bertoncini's elegant sensitivity, Lubambo's Bossa Nova twists and Leitch's bop-based improvisation – coupled with Faddis' incomparable trumpet mastery, the audience is surely in for an evening of high-spirited memorable music with Faddis performing with the guitarists in a variety of combinations.

Take a trip down Clarinet Road: A New Orleans Celebration when Evan Christopher & Friends swing into the Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space on Wednesday, June 23, at 8:00 pm. Produced in partnership with the Sidney Bechet Society, this New Orleans-inspired concert features Christopher on clarinet with Terri Wilson (vocals), Eli Yamin (piano), Ari Roland (bass), LaFrae Sci (drums), Jason Jackson (trombone), Ricky "Dirty Red" Gordon (washboard) and tap dancer Calvin Booker.

Vocalists Jay Clayton and Sheila Jordan take listeners on a musical adventure of scat, ballads, sung poetry, improvised lyrics and more at From Bebop to Freebop at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia on Thursday, June 24, at 8:00 pm. The singers take the stage with bassist Cameron Brown and guitarist Jack Wilkins for an evening of creative expressions.

Make an encore visit to the Leonard Nimoy Thalia on Friday, June 25, at 8:00 pm for two of the most sought-after young vocalists on today's jazz scene when Gretchen Parlato and Kat Edmonson, present an evening of jazz standards and more. Both singers have a style all their own, yet both weave stories through songs in an intimate, sultry, soothing, yet impactful way.
