| Government of Canada Invests in the Medicine Hat Jazz Festival On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament (Medicine Hat), today announced funding for the Medicine Hat Jazz Society. This funding will help the Society present the Medicine Hat Jazz Festival, which will feature performances by emerging and featured artists in various styles of jazz music—including Dixieland, Latin, and contemporary—in concerts and workshops throughout the city. It will also include several free activities to directly engage residents, such as street performers, a film festival, and a free outdoor concert. One of the Festival's goals is to provide the public with access to well-known diverse local, national, and international artists and to challenge audiences with innovative and unique jazz and blues performances. "Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture to the quality of life of Canadians, " said Minister Moore. "The Medicine Hat Jazz Society contributes greatly to Alberta's music scene by supporting local and national artists in their presentation of high-quality performances." "I am pleased that our Government has provided funding for this exciting Jazz Festival, " said Mr. Payne. "Year after year, the Medicine Hat Jazz Society has provided local residents with a high-quality festival that attracts renowned artists to the area for everyone to enjoy." "It is the ongoing support of Canadian Heritage that provides the stability to make music festivals a reality in this great country, " said Lyle Rebbeck, Producer. "The Medicine Hat JazzFest would not have been able to bring the calibre of global and home-grown talent to the streets of our Western Canadian city for 14 years without this help." The Government of Canada has provided funding of $35, 000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
