| A Night of Jazz at Lua Jersey resident and contemporary jazz vocalist, Robin Filippone, will be performing at Lua in Hoboken on May 20th at 8pm. Upon hearing Robin, you can picture yourself back in the 1950's as Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland are about to take to the stage. She combines the rich, sultry tones of traditional jazz and infused contemporary phrasing to bring modern day America up to speed with her new-age style. Robin performs regularly at Smoke in Manhattan with Bill Mobley and the Big Band. Mobley says, "I always notice a change come over the faces of the crowds at Smoke as she begins to sing…they all begin to smile as they seem to be transported by the experience" The performance at Lua will feature complimentary passed champagne between the hours of 8pm and 9pm. There will also be cocktail specials running throughout the night as well. Lua is located at 1300 Sinatra Drive in Hoboken, NJ. Robin has been compared to a modern day Julie London, whose sultry sound simply told a story with a sexy laid back approach to singing. She has been critically acclaimed for her performances at the Showboat Casino Hotel in Atlantic City—which sold out audiences for 12 shows a week. Robin can be found performing all over the New York area. She currently has a regular spot at SMOKE, one of New York's finest jazz clubs, fronting Bill Mobley's Smoke Big Band. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
