| Sol & Funk Root Performs Richmond VA, Congressional Blues Festival Sol & Funk Root have some upcoming high profile shows. Sol will be co-billing the upcoming Congressional Blue Festival with Grammy Award winners Robert Randolph & the Family Band and blues legend Bobby Parker. Sol also performs in Richmond VA as well. Sol has been called "a fierce guitarist and soulful singer" by Jambase and "a great musician and songwriter who constantly reinvents himself with an extraordinary ability to fit the perfect approach and composition." by Fred Cannon, a Senior VP at BMI. Sol has toured around the world with roots, funk, and blues legends and lead his own groups across the east coast US. Sol and his band Funk Root have several high profile shows coming up in the immediate future, including the Congressional Blues Festival, Capital Ale House, Round Hill Arts Festival, and D.C.'s premier street festival and cookout called The Ebbitt Block Party. The 7th Annual Congressional Blues Festival in Washington D.C. is a festival dedicated to preserving blues history and to help keep this great American tradition alive by honoring and assisting those pioneers who helped to create it. This years performers include Grammy award winning Robert Randolph & the Family Band, blues legend Bobby Parker (who's songs inspired Carlos Santana among others), Sol & Funk Root, and the Howard University Choir (from Washington D.C.'s Howard University). The Congressional Blues Festival's mission is dedicated to giving back to American Roots Music by raising money and awareness for organizations that directly support artists in need. To date, the Congressional Blues Festival has raised over $1 million to support this mission. At the festival's beginning the charitable partner was Music Maker Relief Foundation. The past two years the charitable partnerhas been The Blues Foundation based in Memphis, TN. Sol & Funk Root will also be performing Friday May 21 in Richmond Virginia in the heart of downtown at the Capital Ale House. Sol's band consists of bassist Mike Tony Echols, who has worked with Mary Ann Redmond, Politicks, Deanna Bogart and others, as well as drummer Scott Rabino, who has toured nationally with funk, rock, and blues star Tommy Castro and Johnny Nitro. Special guest guitarist virtuoso Bobby Thompson will be a part of the Capital Ale House show and the Congressional Blues Festival set. Bobby Thompson has worked with members of the Wailers, See-I, SOJA and more! There will be a very wonderful local Richmond opening act Margaux LeSourd. Margaux is a deep jazzy soulful singer as well as a fantastic keyboardist who has played an integral part of Richmond funk bands Beast Wellington, and Bungalo 6. At the end of May Sol performs in the northern Virginia area at the Round Hill Arts Hometown Festival. Round Hill Arts is dedicated to enriching the culture of northern Virginia and coordinates an annual festival as well as several smaller musical and artistic events throughout the year. They have chosen Sol and his band for the featured act of their annual festival. In June, Sol & Funk Root will also be performing at the Ebbitt Block Party. Ebbitt Block Party is Washington D.C.'s premier street festival and cookout. On the musical bill this year is national acoustic rock star Jackie Greene, as well as regional favorites William Walter, Justin Trawick, Sol & Funk Root, Emilie Bogrand, and Christylz Bacon.
