Michael Zwerin dies

Jazz musician Michael Zwerin has died after a long battle with a blood di sease. He was 79. The trombonist and bass trumpeter passed away on 2 April (10) in Paris, France. No further details were released about his death.

At the age of 18, Zwerin was spotted by legendary trumpeter Miles Davis, and invited to perform with the music legend at New York City's famous Royal Roost jazz club. Zwerin went on to play with the big bands of
Maynard Ferguson and Claude Thornhill.

He also made his mark as a jazz critic and author, writing for New York newspaper The Village Voice, Rolling Stone magazine, The International H erald Tribune in Paris and Bloomberg News.

His books included Close Enough for Jazz, The Parisian Jazz Chronicles: An Improvisational Memoir and The Silent Sound of Needles, about his bat tle with drug addiction.
Zwerin is survived by his wife, Martine, a son, and three daughters.
