| Jazz Pianist Bunch Dies Jazz pianist John Bunch, who accompanied singers Benny Goodman and Tony Bennett, has lost his battle with skin cancer. Bunch died from melanoma in New York City on 30 March (10), aged 88. In the 1950s he joined the Woody Herman Orchestra, and later played in a band led by King of Swing Benny Goodman. He also played in groups led b y trumpeter Maynard Ferguson and drummers Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. Bunch's longest stint was with Bennett, with whom he worked as pianist and musical director for six years. In recent years, he played for a trio called New York Swing, and took h is final bow with the band on 11 March (10).
