| Fresh fusion evening for Lancashire's jazz and classical music lovers Next month on Saturday, 1 May, the Lancashire Sinfonietta returns to The Dukes theatre in Lancaster for a night of fresh fusion – when jazz and classical music come together for a unique and inspiring musical experience. The orchestra is bringing a jazz quartet together with a classical string quartet to create a series of new works for the combination. Their first collaboration with composer/ performers Andy Scott ( Saxophone ) and Nick Kok ( Piano ) launched a series of innovative concerts which aim to show how successful the crossover of jazz and classical music can be. The programme features composed and improvised music, bringing the freedom of jazz together with the finesse of classical. It's a challenge to all the musicians to work in new ways and be open minded about their genres. "In The Moment" will appeal to both jazz and classical fans and is an entertaining mix of mellow and high-octane jazz, up close and personal in The Round at The Dukes theatre. The concert will begin at 8.00pm and tickets cost £10, concessions £8. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
