| Hong Kong International A Cappella Festival Music fans planning a visit to Hong Kong may like to combine their trip with a forthcoming showcase of a cappella sounds. The Hong Kong International A Cappella Festival runs from March 27th to April 22nd, bringing singers from around the world to perform in a series of indoor and outdoor concerts. Vocal groups from Sweden, the US, Japan and Singapore will be presented at this year's festival, as well as local acts such as the Hong Kong Melody Makers, Ivana Wong and Khalil Fong. Contemporary a cappella music - essentially songs performed by vocal groups without accompaniment - was pioneered by the Whiffenpoofs, a male vocal quartet formed at Yale University in 1909. Nowadays, a cappella performers are usually split into four categories - classical, jazz, rock/pop and collegiate groups. People staying in Hong Kong hotels during the festival can expect to enjoy a diverse programme of events, including the International A Cappella Extravaganza on the opening night. Other anticipated highlights include Alfresco A Cappella on April 10th and the Rock Hard A Cappella Theatre, which is scheduled for April 22nd. write your comments about the article :: © 2010 Jazz News :: home page |
