Chill out at the Cheltenham Folk Festival

People who are booking Cotswolds hotels in February may find that their stay coincides with the Cheltenham Folk Festival. Taking place from February 12th to 14th, the line up promises to offer visitors a great selection of folk and alternative music.

Artists such as Trio Threlfall and Gordon the Hedgehog will take to the stage on the opening night.

Saturday will see yet more bands and singers, including Grace Notes and the Roving Crows, entertain the crowds.

The festival will draw to a close on Sunday, with performances from the likes of Maz O'Connor and The Fay Hield Trio to round off the weekend.

Established by John Shorter in 1996, the event is designed to "banish the winter blues".

His aim was to create a showcase for up-and-coming talent while remaining true to the roots of folk tradition.

In addition to all the live acts, there are lots of workshops that attendees can participate in, including learning the techniques behind some of the instruments used by the performers.

Anyone who would rather stay on the sidelines may be content to browse the stalls selling crafts and gifts or sample some of the local real ales on offer.

Entry for the Saturday costs £40 and will give any ticket holder access to all the day's events, while tickets for individual shows can be purchased for less than £10.
