Tom Sykes to release Americana single, "I Knew"

Whether from a grandparent, parent or elder friend, everyone has heard the phrase, "times were just simpler then." Reminiscing of days long gone and pondering what might have been is the theme of singer/songwriter Tom Sykes' hot new single, "I Knew", as well as the underlying premise for his upcoming album, "A Simpler Time", scheduled for release in February 2010.

Sykes was discovered and mentored by John Hammond, the industry legend responsible for launching the careers of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Aretha Franklin. He began touring the Southeastern United States in the 80s, opening for acts such as Robert Palmer and Firefall. Alas, Sykes is no stranger to hardships and simpler times; the smooth-sailing path he was traveling became cluttered with roadblocks and detours in 1987 when John Hammond passed away before Sykes' first album could be completed. It wasn't until 2005 that Sykes decided the time had come to recapture his long-time dream.

The music of Tom Sykes spans a multitude of genres, combining the maturity of Americana, the heart of blues, the energy of rock, and the sincerity of country. This blend of styles has given him a sound and voice that is uniquely his own.

"A Simpler Time" is the story of an artist, the evolution of a songwriter, and the spark of a dream. With passion and with promise, Sykes has embarked on this journey in order to enrich the landscape and scope of music. In his songs, the emotions are raw and the messages are real. This is a bold venture in which the artist is committed to the art form, and in which the listener reaps the rewards.

"A Simpler Time" tracks have received four platinum, two gold and three silver Auddy awards from www.uplaya.com, the on-line service for independent / unsigned musicians and songwriters interested in immediate feedback on the quality and hit potential of their music. The Audionaut Awards (Auddys ) provide artists an idea of the hit potential of their songs. Clearly Tom Sykes has the talent and potential for great success in the music industry.
