A bit about the musicians... and the MC. (in no particular order):
STEVE NEWMAN
Steve Newman is an accomplished South African acoustic guitarist, and was a founder member of the popular African group Tananas. For over two decades Newman has been collaborating with fellow South African guitarist, Tony Cox. Steve Newman has written a history for himself that very few can equal. A consummate instrumentalist who can uncannily pick out any tune you can name, he has traversed the length and breadth of the world plying his magic.
Acoustic guitarist Steve Newman whose work with Tananas, the Aquarian Quartet (with Tony Cox, Syd Kitchen & Greg Georgiades) Mondetta (with Gito Baloi & Wendy Oldfield), the duo with Tony Cox & as a soloist, makes him a widely travelled muzo. Tananas has played festivals & concerts in Oz, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, France, Sweden, UK, Spain, Canary Islands, USA, Mozambique, Namibia & Zim. As a soloist he has played UK, Holland, Belgium & India . With Tony UK, Norway, Moz & Namibia. Currently touring solo.
Steve plays guitar like no other, from years of experience with only the best in the field. If you'd like to know what a guitar can really do, you have to see this gig!

GUY BUTTERY
After opening a concert in early 2001 for well known Mozambican musician Gito Baloi and Nibs van der Spuy, both musicians were dumb struck at the virtuosity coming from the fingers of the 17 year old. Not being able to ignore this enormous talent, it was not long before Buttery sealed a deal with South African World/Jazz label, Sheer Sound. His debut album "When I Grow Up…" was released in late 2002 to great critical acclaim. Comprising of highly original self written acoustic fingerstyle compositions, Guy Buttery was the youngest nominee in the history of the SAMA's (South African Music Awards) of the same year. He was nominated in both 'Best Instrumental Album of the Year' and 'Best Newcomer for 2002', at the tender age of 18. After creating such a unique hybrid fingerstyle technique, using both hands on the fret board, creating polyphonic, percussive and harmonic textures, it wasn't long before he caught the attention of a loyal cult following. This in turn translated into being invited to all the prestigious music festivals throughout South Africa and Mozambique. The tapestry of sounds and stylistic influences coming from his guitar, never seem to be exhausted. Just when you think the journey is over, he will start playing a beautiful rendition of one of his favourite South African composers. Be it Vusi Mahlasela, Tony Cox or Steve Newman, Buttery never loses sight of where he comes from and the rich local influences all around him.

KARNAMRITA DASI (international act from America)
Devotional singing with a blend of traditional Indian and contemporary instrumentation.
In 1998, as my mother was passing away, she requested me to take my singing seriously and record. Although I had studied Sanskrit and sung bhajans for 28 years, I was apprehensive without proper training. That same year, I took her ashes to India, and searched for a teacher to begin studying the classical Dhrupad style. My two teachers, Pandit Vidur Malik and Tarun Krsna Das guided me through four years of wondrous meditation and training.
As a child in school, my teacher Kutila taught us to chant the women's prayers from the scriptures. Rembering this, I took the opportunity to search out more women in our Sampradaya ( spiritual lineage) and compose music to their words.
Here then, is my offering to these glorious women. Women who sing, pray and share their life with realizations. For all of us, there is a voice that we can relate to, whether it be Draupadi's song of letting go or simply the Arati celebration to the river Yamuna. Please sing along and let these women touch your heart.

GARY THOMAS
Shortly after moving to Cape Town, Gary recorded his debut solo album “Wooden Boxes & Thought Hunting” whilst ‘Cabins’ was in development. The album was something of an underground gem in the Western Cape and was officially released in January at the start of his solo career.
Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of music, he combines the technical and theoretical elements of his teenage Classical and his University Jazz trainings, to produce a genre off Acoustic music that is unlike anything South Africa has seen before. From percussive finger- tapping, to virtuoso picking and violent strumming, his guitar work has earned praises like “masterful, wizardry, genius” in the press. Vocally, Gary manages to deliver an impressive range where his voice in one instant softly hovers and violently snarls in the next. A subtle use of Fx pedals and alternative techniques help create an uncanny tone and timbre. Using most of his body when he performs, he dedicates his left foot to a custom- made stomp box which emits a full bass boom and drives the music towards higher and more grandiose soundscapes.
