THE EDWARD SIMON TRIO

Lovers of the tender elegance and power of jazz piano and Latin-flavored music will find all this and more in Edward Simon. Venezuelan-born, and currently living in Orange City, Simon has been quietly but profoundly making an impact for a number of years. He's been an astute sideman with high-caliber players like Terence Blanchard and Greg Osby, but it is his own work as a solo artist and band leader that truly reveal his performance and compositional prowess. ("Simon is an important presence on the jazz and world music scene." - Los Angeles Times)

Performing with Edward Simon are:

Ben Street (bass) Ben has played and recorded with Ralph Towner, David Sanchez, Clark Terry, Clifford Jordan, Shawn Colvin, Cyndi Lauper, and Orlando's own Sam Rivers. ("Mr. Street's performance is all about time, tone, taste and energy" - TalkBass.com)

Adam Cruz (drums) Adam gained early recognition in New York Latin and Jazz circles while only 20. Cruz has recorded and toured with the Mingus Dynasty Big Band, Chick Corea, Mongo Santamaria, Herbie Mann and Eddie Palmieri. ("Cruz pairs flawless technique and a crystalline touch with a level of prophetic intuition that is awe-inspiring." - Modern Drummer)

THE TIPTONS SAXOPHONE QUARTET AND DRUMS

With a repertoire that ranges from New Orleans second-line to jazz, Afro-Cuban to Balkan, klezmer and beyond, the Tiptons Sax Quartet creates some of the wildest sounds ever to come out of a sax quartet. An all-women sax quartet from Seattle, New York and points Midwest, with 10 CDs under their collective belt, touring and playing festivals in Europe and the US for more than 15 years. Each member is a solo artist in her own right.

The Tiptons are: Amy Denio ("Denio is a creative-music goddess." - San Francisco Weekly); Jessica Lurie ("Lurie puts the accent on the remote-control imperative that drives the tapping of your helpless toe." - LA Weekly.); Sue Orfield; Tina Richerson; and drummer Chris Stromquist. ("The songs are unforgettable, playful, and feature high-energy interaction between all five members. This unity of various repertoires creates a worldly and soulful touch that cannot be described; it must be heard." - Cake Magazine)

"After Hours Jam" featuring BRIAN GRODER and special guests

New York trumpeter Brian Groder headlined Jazz On Edge Volume 1 in 2008. His latest album, Groder & Greene, has been called "Pure magic" by All About Jazz. Joining Brian in this benefit for the Garden Theatre will be the cream of the Orlando jazz scene ... and a few surprises. ("Groder speaks jazz as if it were his mother tongue." - ImproJazz, France)
