| Joni Mitchell Tribute Album Now Available from Bandhouse Gigs On August 14, 2008, sixty of the Washington D.C. area's finest musicians and singers gathered to pay tribute to the songs of Joni Mitchell. Held at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD, the sold-out crowd in the 2, 000-seat concert hall was treated to a brilliant career retrospective of one of music's immortals, with more than 30 of Mitchell's songs performed that electric evening. Now, Bandhouse Gigs, the show's producer, has released an album of highlights from the concert, available both on CD and as downloads. Bandhouse Gigs is a DC-based, not-for-profit entity that has organized nine successful tribute concerts in the area since their beginnings in 2004. Founded by noted musicians and producers Ronnie Newmyer, Chuck Sullivan, David Sless and Dan Schwartz, this eclectic collection of the Washington area's most talented artists – Grammy winners, gold record sellers, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees –comes together each year to pay tribute to some of era's most iconic musicians. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Band, Warren Zevon, Nick Lowe and Allen Toussaint are among the songwriters celebrated in concert. Coming February 13, 2010, will be a tribute to Neil Finn and Crowded House at the Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. "Joni Mitchell remains one of the most heralded songwriters and artists in popular music, " says Newmyer. "Over the course of her remarkable 40 year career, Mitchell has explored and expanded the boundaries of folk, rock, pop and jazz." Her classics include "Both Sides Now, " "Woodstock" and "Help Me." She has recorded more than 25 albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. "Her music continues to influence several generations of artists and fans, " says Sullivan. Included on the album are performances by some of the shining lights in DC music, including Grammy award winners John Jennings and Jon Carroll, Mary Ann Redmond, Lea, Grace Griffith, Laura Burhenn, Naked Blue, Chaise Lounge, Luke Brindley, Margot MacDonald, Chelsea Lee, Heidi Martin, Diane Rosenthal, Esther Haynes, Carey Creed, One Horse Town, Cairo Fred, Deeme Katson, Cal Everett, and guitarist Steuart Smith of the Eagles who recorded with Mitchell on her Turbulent Indigo album.
