| Gospel at the Heart of Montreal Jireh Gospel Choir, directed by well-known gospel passionista Carol Bernard, will be warming up local audiences for the Christmas season with another spectacular performance at Club Soda, marking its thirteenth consecutive annual show. Jireh (pronounced Jy'-ra) has grown in popularity, performing with the Cirque du Soleil at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and recording a platinum CD with Mario Pelchat. Most recently this group of 18 singers and 8 musicians was selected to represent Canada at Polyfollia, an international singing showcase in France. People ask if Jireh Gospel Choir is from the USA. The answer is no. Most of the members of this bilingual authentic-sounding gospel choir were born in Montreal. "I think that Montreal is the best city in the world and one of things that I love about Club Soda is that it is right at the heart of the city - the corner of St-Laurent and Ste-Catherine streets. 'Love it!" says Carol Bernard, Jireh's director. "The audience had quite a baptism of gospel last night when Mario Pelchat ceded the floor to the Jireh Gospel Choir. Excellent, the group offered a performance that got them a well merited standing ovation right from their first appearance in the show" - Le Droit, Gatineau, Quebec "Their sound resonated with the soul of the church, and touched the heart of the audience." - Journal Ouest-France, France write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Jazz News :: home page |
